Does XnView support 10 bit dpx files, or only 8 bit?

10 bit DPX file support

Post by Henning »

I am replying to a post from Jan 17, 2005. Is it still true today (July 2007) that saving to DPX in 10-bit mode does only store 8 relevant bits of information, and just adds 2-Bits of 0-stuffing per channel?
Are there any plans to change / enhance this behaviour?

-> I am looking for a tool to convert 16Bit images (e.g. TIFF) to true DPX-10Bit images (true = with actual 10 Bits of information, not just 8 bits of info plus some non-info stuffing to satisfy the format requirements)

I work on a version that support full 10/12/16bits picture!

great! am i correct to assume that this means that the functionality
will be for the separate mac/linux apps you mentioned in my thread
on syncing xnview versions rather than being applied to existing
releases?

thanks,

it sounds from the other thread like xnview/nconvert is doing
something of a split with windows as one branch and linux/mac
as another, the linux/mac becoming available for test in september.
will this dpx 10, 12, 16 bit capability be included for all branches
and platforms at the same time, or will it come to one before the
others?

thanks and sorry for the confusing question, i think you're
doing wonderful things here,

The native support for 16bits will be in this new software...

10 bit DPX files

Post by Stever »

I need to convert a 16 bit TIFF file into a 10 bit DPX file, XN View conversion only yields a 8 bit file (even when the "write 10 bits per component" checkbox is selected under conversion options)

When will this function work correctly ? - or does anyone else know of another conversion program which works.

thanks

No 'write 10 dpx' convert 8bits to 10bits, you can't convert 16=>10 with the current version

Bonjour,
