Hi
I can't seem to save any of my images. I click Save As and the Save As type field is empty. When I click save, a warning pops up saying "Contact your dealer"
Why won't it let me save?

- Which format do you use when saving?
- Does the problem occur with all formats?
- What platform are you working on (Windows 98, 2000, ...)?
- Which XnView version do you use?
- Have you tried deinstalling and reinstalling XnView (perhaps a library might be defect)?
- Could you download the XnView, again (perhaps the download package might be corrupt)?

To be more specific, when I open the Save As dialog, the Save As type field is empty. When I click on the droplist, there are no formats in which I can choose; it's just blank. The file extension in the File Name field usually shows up as the original file's extension, but not always.
When I click save (in the Save As dialog), a warning pops up and says "Contact your dealer." Sometimes when I click save, a Save as - colour mode dialog shows up. I click OK, but the file is not actually saved.[/quote]

Okay, now I see the problem. I've unchecked all the file types in the options. In my haste in configuring the application to my liking, I didn't pay close attention to what the file types tab was. I had it confused with file type associations, so I unchecked all the file types, hence the disappearance of file extensions in the Save As dialog.
Thanks to helmut and xnview for helping me. Now I can replace IrfanView with this wonderful program!

True. I had a minor confusion about this myself when I started using XnView although not as drastic as described in this thread.Dreamer wrote:I think this is confusing for many users...
Some suggestions have been made to change the options dialog to clarify this.
The most simple solution might be to rename the "File types" category to something like "File save types"!

I really don't have a single idea for the name of this option that I am sure is the best one. When I originally commented on this I also though of just "Save types", and now I have now come up with "Save file types" which I think is the best of my suggestions on this. It is at least less likely to cause confusion than the current name.
In my opinion, it is a very useful option and is therefore needed. XnView supports saving to far more filetypes than I will ever use. Therefore limiting the number of filetype options in the "Save as..." dialog makes it a more easy to use tool for me than it would be without it.xnview wrote:Perhaps "File types" is not needed????

Starting a poll wil not solve this unless there are clear options to choose from. And I don't feel we have that right now.
