HighEdit file format

Post by Guest »

Can XnView read .hed files? HighEdit is an old word-processor, and the only thinhg I have seen that is purported to read the .hed files is XnView. But I tried it and it does not recognize the format... Is there an addon or something I need?

Thanks,

:) Hello !

• Options (F12) >> General >> Operation (default tab), tick the box [×] Display all image file types.
- Options >> File List >> Add the HED extension in the field at the bottom of the dialogue
(“Include” is the upper field of the two, that isn't indicated…).
Tick the boxes for the view-modes you want display the format in.
• That HED format is alright listed @ reading as image format…

Claude,
Thanks for the reply. I ticked the "Display all image file types" box, and added "HED" to the second "Custom Files(*)" textbox field at the bottom of the "File List" tab, and ticked all four boxes above it ("Thumbnails", "Other", "Show as Thunbnails", "Show In Preview").

I assume that "(“Include” is the upper field of the two, that isn't indicated…). " means that the upper of the two identically labelled texboxes is intended such that entering "HTM" would encompass both .htm and .html files.

But I don't have any idea what this means: "That HED format is alright listed @ reading as image format…"

And when I double-click on the file in XnView, I get a "format of the file could not be determined" error.

Pierre,
No, it is a binary format.

:) Hello Jim ! Welcome aboard as a Member !

• You must indeed add the extension on the "Include" field. You may see that clearer having a glance HERE ;)
…But I don't have any idea what this means: "That HED format is alright listed @ reading as image format…"…
• It means that it's present in the official list of supported formats for reading (only), like shown from the Info Menu,
and also THERE as easier to use…

aaahhhhh. I understand now. The first textbox is "Include", as opposed to the second textbox, which is "Exclude".

I found that "Hi-Eddi" is an old image processing format written for the Commodore 64 by Hans Haberl, in the 1980s. And the .hed files that XnView supports are Hi-Eddi, rather than the .hed format for HighEdit. :(

So the good news is that I learned a bit about a cool software package (XnView); but the bad news is that it doesn't read my .hed files...

Thanks so much for your help!
