drag & drop thumbnail to rename

Post by revell »

When I was still using ACDSee (before I learned about XnView) :) there was a great plugin (don't remember the name) to drag and drop the thumbnails into a desired order and then to rename them so that the pictures would stay in the chosen order.
The rename function was pritty much like the one of XnView but the drag and drop was superb. Not only was it much quicker to bring pictures into a desired order, also the outcome was clear before the change to the filenames was actually done.
A functionality like that would be amazing! :)

drag n' drop thumbnails - custom sorting

Post by Jean_59 »

I strongly support this feature : drag n' dropping the thumbnails to make a custom sort order.

I think there is no need for a custom order stored in data base: a temporary order (which would be lost when browsing out of the current subdirectory) is enough to easily make it permanent by batch renaming, then display sorted by name.

The present batch rename function allows changing the order, but yous don't see what you are doing.

I still use ACDSee for this reason.

I would be very glad if there would be that option. If that would be added, I could switch completely form ACDSee to XNview. I use it quite often, and would be glad if there would be possibility to make sequence in folder by draging&droping. Mostly I use it for renaming just after sorting, so there is not big necessity for saving the sequence, but I would be very glad if this option would behave like ACDSee, where the custum sort is saved in sorted folder and is deletable by one click in toolbar. That is very handy when making some picture show.

thanks for great freeware,
Valdis

Are you planning to add the custom sort order to the windows version?
