XnView causes 100% CPU usage in directory opus (dopus.exe)
Hi,
I'm using Directory Opus 8 (don't want to pay for 9 as there aren't any interesting new features in there) and latest XnView.
For quite some time often when using XnView (launched from DOpus by double-clicking an image) suddenly DOpus starts using 100% CPU.
As this happens only when XnView is running I'm absolutly sure it's somehow caused by XnView, but I'm not sure whether this is actually a bug in DOpus for XnView.
Would be nice if you could look into this issue. If there's any info you need from me feel free to ask for it, I'm an experienced user so getting debug info shouldn't be a problem.

Re: xnview causes 100% cpu usage in directory opus (dopus.ex
And if you double clic on xnview, you have this problem too?
Pierre.
problem is that it doesn't happen every time i use xnview. I guess it's some specific action or something that causes it, but not knowing makes repoducing pretty hard.
I never start XnView by calling the exe without parameters, but I don't think it's related to the way it's started.
My guess would be that XnView does some file action and Dopus gets confused by it)

Do you known the command line used by opus?aQe-YWl4 wrote:problem is that it doesn't happen every time i use xnview. I guess it's some specific action or something that causes it, but not knowing makes repoducing pretty hard.

would think so. couldn't find the actual call neither in registry nor control panel > folder options, windows is just showing the "restore" button there.
but i really don't think it's related to the way xnview is started, the high cpu usage would probably happen right after starting xnview.
another thing it might be related to: creating files. could be it happens when saving a file, for example in photoshop.
i'm still trying to find a way to repoduce but as usual with stuff like that it just won't happen when you need it to

Could you try to disable option/View/Misc/Read ahead?aQe-YWl4 wrote:would think so. couldn't find the actual call neither in registry nor control panel > folder options, windows is just showing the "restore" button there.

Good that you have found the reason for the 100% CPU usage.aQe-YWl4 wrote:I just figured out it wasn't related to XnView at all but a bug in DOpus that occured when i was running XnView due to the way I use DOpus. Sorry about the false report.

Hi aQe-YWl4,
This will probably help you find out which plugin/shell extension/video codec is causing the 100% CPU problem in Opus:

(Sorry if this is a little off-topic for the XnView forum. Just saw this thread and thought I'd point to some useful info.)
