Rating visible/changeable for each thumbnail in the browser

Post by mostly harmless »

rating

I would love to have the rating available directly under each

preview right in the browser:

1.
accessability of the rating-feature:

rating symbols under each thumbnail in the browser

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..................picture..................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
X..............................................X
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

(-) (~) (*) (*) (*) (*) (*) <- these are rating symbols displayed in the browser under each thumbnail

Alternatively the rating could be ON TOP OF each thumbnail.
Maybe greyed out and transluscent and becoming colored and brighter when the mouse pointer is over the thumbnail.

..the symbols range from -1 (-), over +-0 (~) to +5 (*)
the symbols can be small cyrcles with - and + symbols on it ..

Those could look like coins (not necessarily 3D).
- is colored red
+ is colored green
~ probably yellow, white or orange

This way the rating would be used much more often.

2.
storage-position of the ratings

When I move or copy rated files, then the rating is lost.
I would propose storing the rating sepeartely in a database.
Files can be identified with a hash so even a moved file or a
file that was renamed or was deleted but was then downloaded
again.. would be recognized.
