Tabs for Image view?

In XnView MP alpha we currently have tabs at the tops that allow for switching to the preview and back. I think these "Tabs" need a closer look and discussion.

To be honest I haven't had a deeper look into Alpha0005 but it looks promising. At first glance one can see the new tabs "Browser" and "Preview" at the top.

Some questions:
Will double-click for opening be supported too?
Can users hide/show the tabs using some options?
Can the user open multiple tabs for several images? How?

Some pros and cons for the usage of Tabs:
+ More intuitive for novice user

o Same behaviour can be achieved using (small) symbols in the toolbar

- Space consuming
- Long mouse distances: Move mouse to thumbnail, Click move mouse cursor to top, click.
- Different behaviour than XnView MP.

I think that XnView MP should not differ from XnView unless there is a really good reason. For the tabs I cannot see the good reason, yet.

Yes, and option to put tabbar on the bottom

Can the user open multiple tabs for several images? How?

You can try by using 'recent files' to open more one view
