Question on selection size for cropping

Post by esis »

Hi..

Been using Xnview for years now since its beta..
Thanks for sharing this beautiful software..

Question:

I know we can use a fixed selection size as provided.
But can we customise our selection size for our cropping?
eg 600x100 in pixel.

Many thx in advance.

In XnView you can create a custom selection with the following steps:

1.) Open an image
2.) Select an area. Resize the selection to the size you want to have as custom size
3.) Choose "Edit > Set selection size... > Save selection as custom

From now on you can restore the selection using "Edit > Set selection size > Saved selection" or by pressing "C".

Notes:
- The restored selection follows the orientation of the image. You may need to press "Tab" or choose "Selection - Swap Width & Height" for changing the selection's orientation.

- If nothing is selected and a saved selection is restored, XnView will restore both the size and the position, which can be useful.

Only custom print size is possible

esis, your settings are good. Keep in mind that the custom selection size discussed here and in this old topic is for printing and relies on DPI. Remembering selections only defined by pixel isn't possible.

Resize handles for Resizing selection

If you look at the selection rectangle you will see eight small grey squares, the so-called resize handles. Move your mouse onto one of those resize handles and drag (left click and move mouse) the resize handle. Using the resize handles you can change the size of the selection.
