1.94.2 - Crash when saving image in PSP

Post by TrillianaEM »

Hi,

first of all I'd like to thank you for this excellent piece of software. After trying many others (couple of well-known non-freeware also), I found this is the perfect tool for me. :D :D :D

However, since updating to 1.94.2 I have this problem:
- open a JPG from XnView in PSP9 using the shortcut "Open in..."
- edit the image
- save image as a new JPG in the same folder

When opening the "Save as" dialog in PSP, Xnview crashes. This happens very often. In earlier versions it never happened (or at least can't remember). PSP9 hasn't changed, XnView settings are unchanged over the last 3 XnView versions. I have WinXP SP2.

Cheers & DANKE

Hi Pierre,

yes, it crashes only when I open "Save as" in PSP. I usually open the images for editing from within Xnview, with the shortcut "Open with". I then edit the image, save it and close it in PSP, then go back to Xnview, open the next image etc.

This was all OK in earlier versions, I had no problems at all. I edited lots of images like this. Now, sometimes I can edit 2-3 images as described before Xnview crashes, sometimes it crashes by the first image. Always when I open "Save as", with a delay of maybe 2-3 seconds. Hmm, maybe this has something to do with what I'm doing in PSP? Would be strange, I use the same features I used earlier (change size, sharpen, histogram...). I never change any exif data in PSP.

Don't know if it matters, I'm usually saving the images as optimized jpg with Exif data.

Salut

And if you are in another folder (XnView), no crash?
Pierre.

Hi Pierre,

it's just as you guessed. I edited 8 or 9 images as described and saved them in another folder, not the one displayed in XnView. No crash. Then I edited 2 images, and saved them in the same folder, and Xnview crashed on the 2nd.

Another thing: this seems to be something basic in the new version. I experience the same on a new laptop also, with both PSP9 and XnView 1.94.2 freshly installed (i.e. not installed over an older version).

No. I edited lots of images from 2007 holiday with 1.93 as described.

And don't know if it makes any difference, but I also have ShellExt installed, had it in 1.93 too.
