How To Change Location Of Cache & Plugins Directory?
I have a 1GB ram disk where I store often used files and directories (browser caches, system temporary files, application data files). How to redirect the cache and plugins folder to another location? No pointer exists in the .ini or the registry...
Thanks, Olivier...But is there a way to redirect the standard Plugins folder (as opposed to simply the Adobe plugins location)?
A 1 GB ram disk (out of a system total of 2 GB using Ram Disk Plus @ http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/ramdiskplus.php) is suitable for my purposes. I place various application databases (Miranda, K9, Thunderbird, FlashGet) as well as various data directories (Firefox, Opera) on the ram disk. Redirecting TMP/TEMP files to ram disk speeds up file compression/unzipping as well as CD/DVD burning. I place frequently viewed and edited documents in there as well (and remove and replace them as I see fit).
The trade-off is that I am sacrificing stability for speed. Although the ram disk writes back an image of itself to the hard drive during restarts/shutdowns, it is entirely possible that the image may itself become corrupted (much like a corrupted hibernation file (hiberfil.sys). With that said, I would say that the ram disk is entirely and utterly useful.

I really don't know... sorry.Anonymous wrote:Thanks, Olivier...But is there a way to redirect the standard Plugins folder (as opposed to simply the Adobe plugins location)?
Thanks a lot for the explanation about RamDiskPlus. Interesting... (not for me, though... as my 448MB is used by the System+progs more often than not. It is just the balanced amount for my needs...).

You're explanation on the Ram disk is really interesting to read. Thanks for that one.Anonymous wrote:Thanks, Olivier...But is there a way to redirect the standard Plugins folder (as opposed to simply the Adobe plugins location)?

At the moment there is no way to change the PlugIn directory of XnView. What you could surely do is move the whole XnView directory onto your Ram disk and start XnView from there. Sure enough you should not do this if you have file associations registered with XnView - or first de-associate and the re-associate.
