suggestion: Speed up for rotating maybe possible

Post by xntest »

Hello

I often rotate my JPGs depending on EXIF data and i figure out that nconvert is not faster if it does not rotate a picture than the cases it rotates pictures.

Maybe nconvert does something that is not neccesary if it has not rotate a picture.
Pierre, maybe you can speed up nconvert for the case that it has not to rotate pictures.

Do you use "-jpegtrans exif"?

Could you send me your email by PM to send you a test version?
Pierre.

Hello Pierre

Thanks for the testversion but it is not faster.

I tested it with 20 pictures with 48 MB size. All pictures are from my digicam and must be rotated.
It needs 15 seconds with your testversion.
After pictures were rotated I put them to nconvert again and it took 15 seconds again although no pictures had to be rotated.

I tested it with the version of nconvert that I'm using usually. It's version 4.79. The behaviour of version 4.79 is the same and it takes 15 seconds also.

BTW:
First I tried to generate me some pictures that are noch rotated upside.
For that purpose I rotated pictueres with xnview an save them. After that nconvert did not rotate them back.
Then I unchecked the flag "keep EXIF data" in the options menu from xnview while saving jpeg.
After that all EXIF data were lost and nconvert couldn't rotate pictures upside.

Is it possible to rotate pictures with xnview and keep EXIF data but change the orientation information in EXIF?

Yeahh!!!

Pierre, the new version rocks :-)))

I have tested the same pictures as before.
20 pictures with 48 MB were rotated in 15 seconds.

Then I have put the same pictures to nconvert again and it took only 3 seconds :-)

Can I use this testversion for all my pictures or is it a non stable version or something with risk functions?

Should I wait until the new feature is integrated into an official version?

Thanks a lot!

You can use it, xnview 1.95 & nconvert 5.02 will be available in 1 week for beta testing
