No save prompt after save followed by undo

Post by Mike Hall »

Open any image.
Make a change (eg flip Horiz)
Save
Undo
Close - no prompt to save changed file

This is my first post. Would be surprised if this hasn't been raised before, but have not found anything after quite a bit of searching.

Excellent product, but would really like a redo!

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !
…Close - no prompt to save changed file
• That's right, but questionable…
- Since you have undone the change, finally the file isn't modified, there is no need to save it, IMHO…
BTW :  The Undo depth (levels) can be set via an INI option (no GUI) :
Starting from v. 1.92…
[View]
UndoCount=n
n…” is the count of changes which can be undone from the button of the tool-bar (default : 5)

• There is a Redo in 1.95, please check your Edit Menu;)

- I guess that there is no default button for that function, but you can add one at will from the Options >> Tool-bar…
- An icon exists on the default bitmap skin, and on my own skins (not sure that others have been updated… :| )

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

Thanks for the quick response.

In respect of the subject of the request, after you make a change (eg flip horiz) and save the change, the saved images reflect the change. Now undo, which displays the original image, which is no longer the same as the saved image, therefore XnView should detect that the image is 'dirty'??? However that does not happen and if you close, there is no prompt to save the image back to it's original state. If designed that way, IMHO it's unintuitive and dangerous and not what a user would want/expect. :x

Thanks for the tip on Redo.

Sorry, my response is rather confusing. Try this instead...

<pre>
action screen shows image on disc image update status
open image original image original image clean
change
(flip horiz) flipped image original image dirty
save flipped image flipped image clean
undo <b> original image flipped image dirty</b>
close (no save prompt!) <b>flipped image</b> n/a
reopen image flipped image flipped image clean
</pre>

[sorry about layout, rather limited HTML accepted, eg not <table>]
