Displaying of a picture in a "simple" window?

Post by Michael_Mann »

Hi,

I'm new here in this board and sorry for my bad english.

I have only one question:
What I have to do that xnview displays a single picture in a simple window like other picture viewers displays pictures? If I open a picture I'm always in the big window of the main program.

I use a databank (Uleads PhotoImpact Album11) and included there some pictures in ham-6 and ham-8 (Amiga-IFF)-Format and also Amigas disk,info-files. Other programs than xnview don't know these formats so I start xnview to display them in windows programs.
But xnviews big program window overlays complete the window of the album program and is sometimes too big for such a small disk.info-file.

Thanks for a hint what I have to do to solve this problem.

Michael

BTW.: xnView becomes from every new relaese better and better :D

XnView is a MDI program, so you have the main window, and child window like browser or view

:) Hello !

• There is no problem to use XnView like you wish :
1. To prevent it starts with the browser, in the Options >> General ----Start-up----
a) untick the box Launch Browser at Startup
b) [] tick the radio-button “Specified” below, and leave the field blank.
c) untick the box Maximize XnView at Startup

2. In Options >> View, tick the three boxes :
[×] Only one window view opened
[×] No multiple views for same file
[×] Open only one view for multiple files (Startup & Drag-Drop)

• Then starting the programme, adjust the size as you need, it might be saved for the next session…
- You could also try - for starting from the icon on the Desktop - to set the window as »Normal«
via right-click on that icon >> Properties >> Execute —> [Normal] in the drop-down list >> OK

• If you are using Total Commander and have a button to start XnView with the file under the cursor,
do not tick any of the two boxes “Run minimized - “Run maximized”
- Set the parameters %P%N to get the long name and path.

Hi Claude,

this trick works - thanks for this hint... :D
Album uses also a commandline like Total Commander or other programs.

BTW.: I had deleted the old ini-file because some adjustments hadn't worked which the new version of xnview. Now I see that the info-files of Amiga Icons couldn't displayed now (unknown format)...
What has happend or is simply the library which decode these info files shortened? I'm remembering some troubles with a company which had used illegal these decode-libraries...

:) Again…

• Please, check the option :
General >> Operation >> [×] Display all image file types
- The box must be ticked…
• Whether that doesn't work still, try to add the extension in the File List >> Custom field (include)
the last but one field on that page, it isn't marked off…
… but it is THERE

• I don't think that the libraries are the culprits, assuming that you didn't delete and change the whole of them ?

Hi,

I'm a little bit surprised that there is an extra activation for all file types which xnview supports.

Many thanks again for this second tip - now xnview works in such way which I wants. :)

Michael

It's about polite consideration for users of XnView who also use other programs for some of those file extensions. Most of us really dislike when a program automatically "grabs" file extensions.

Hi,

I should explain my last answer:
I had only activated this item "General >> Operation >> [×] Display all image file types" to find the info-extension and linked only manually HAM- and info-files (both from Amiga resp. IFF).
I'm only wondering that per default not all kind of files are displayed for linking in the linking requester.

Normal I prefer the manual linking of file extensions with the properties menu of the resp. file.

Therefore my suggestion: If there is a need to split in usual file extensions and all file extensions wouldn't it be better to have this option direct in the linking requester fhan in the "General"-Tab?
