I am new to XNView, downloaded it, looks like a great product but I downloaded it because I wanted to be able to turn gif files into jpeg, to use in powerpoint presentations, so that I could modify them before placing them in the presentation but everytime I bring a free gif file down from the web and try to open it, it says "format of the file stadavid.gif (example) could not be determined".
I go to websites, right click, save picture as, bitmap (only have option to save as art or bitmap), save it, try to open it and it won't let me, says error above.
I downloaded this software because I thought I could convert gifs to jpegs but I either am doing something way wrong, got the wrong software, or it doesn't work for web gifs. I need help. Using windows xp, aol. 8.0, and have IE. Need someone to walk me through the steps to convert gifs off of websites, for use in powerpoint please.
Tried your help and faq, couldn't find anything on this problem. Thanks.
Can't open gif files I download off web

Hi, this is a known problem of Internet Explorer, see Internet Explorer Saves Images As Bitmaps (.bmp Files)
Clear the cache of Internet Explorer to fix the bug of save as bmp (see 'Resolution' in the above Microsoft article).
