Vista (64) and using XMP fields

Post by magicia »

There have been several postings on these topics, but as a beginner with XnView and Vista, I would like to check the answers to the following questions before proceding:

1) Can I install the latest version (1.95?) of XnView on Vista (64)? Do I need any addons to ensure full functionality, if so which ones and where may I find them?

2) I have XnView running on a laptop using XP. The two edit fields related to XMP are greyed out. The image shows the small XMP icon as well as IPTC and EXIF. How can I ensure this function works in my desktop (Vista) version?

3) My intention is to copy some XMP fields, especially categories (flattened), keywords, ratings and fields relating to the image tile and caption into ITCP. Should I be able to do this, preferably in batch mode?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes you can

You must have the XMP plugin available in full package

You can do that for all fields in Metadata/Copy XMP in IPTC

Vista (64) and using XMP fields

Post by magicia »

Thank you Pierre. I installed the full version on XP first, but I should not have any problems with Vista.

I now have the XMP to IPTC options available. Unfortunately the IPTC data does not seem to change after rebuilding from XMP.

I have checked the information in XMP using Exiftool/GUI. In addition to most of the information from EXIF, XMP includes several keywords, a rating number and notes. Categories are also included in one field as divided by text enclosed by<>. None of this shows when I go to edit the IPTC data. I would expect information which would have corresponding fields in IPTC to be transferred to those fields, or else options to be offered on which XMP data should be moved to which IPTC fields.

I am sure I must have missed something simple, but really cannot see what !

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have always the problem with 1.95.4?

Showing and Editing XMP

Post by magicia »

Pierre

I was using an earlier version. I installed 1.95.4, definitely including the XMP plug-in. This time the thumbnails show that there are XMP data associated with the image, but the properties and edit metadata fields do not show XMP. I confirmed the XMP information with ExifGui,

I reinstalled XnView 1.95.4 several times, including on another computer, but always with the same result.

I'm afraid I am a loss what to do next!

Has this capability been removed for XnView?

Your replies to my earlier posts in this thread state I should be able to use metadata/copy to copy XMP fields into IPTC.

Sorry i wasn't clear. XnView can only edit IPTC, but can convert IPTC into or from XMP

This is exactly what I want to do - take XMP information and put it into the appropriate IPTC fields.

The problem is that apart from the small icon on the thumbnails, my copy of XnView does not make any reference to XMP!

I guess this should be "...cannot convert...". Right, Pierre?

My problem now is that I do not have edit/metadata/xmp command.

Apart from showing the XMP icon at the bottom of the thumbnails, there is no mention of XMP in any of the commands.
