Category pane to the right

Post by Guest »

Hi,

is there any possibility of having the folder tree to the left of the screen and the category pane to the right?

This would help very much if you want to add pictures from different folders to categories. Now you have to mark the pictures in the thumbnail browser, select them with the mouse, move the mouse pointer with the left button pressed to the category tab so that the pane changes from folders to categories, move the mouse to the category you want to assign the pictures to, release the mouse button, select the folder tab again, navigate to the new folder etc. - quite a bit of work  It would be easier if we could see both the folder tree and the categories at the same time.

Best wishes

Yes, XnView's current UI design confuses/overloads navigation with filtering. It's partly my (and other users) fault for strongly advocating the tabbed navigation panel approach.

The problem is not just the placement of the category panel, its behavior must be changed, too.

I'm in favor of an additional "filter panel" similar to the one in Lightroom 2.

This issue needs much more thought and input from users.

So like XnViewMP, Category pane & Folder pane can be detached from tab?
Pierre.

Hi Pierre

It's not just about panel docking.

IMO category assignment and navigation/filtering should be separated into different panels.
