You can use an online filesending service (free) to send big files, like videofiles. I usually use this: http://www.yousendit.com/ (up to 100 mb)
No fuzz, no registration.

OK, after a lot of testing, it seems that in nearly all the cases I had, the crashes would only occur when processing a large amount of files. When I isolate the files that the program seems to get stuck on, they process just fine.

I'm going to send one file that I haven't managed to work out. This one plays OK in VLC, but crashes XNview when it tries to extract the thumbnail. However, even with this one, there has to be something amiss as MPC will only play the audio... so probably not XNview's fault! It's an MPEG-1 file:

So in conclusion... I take it all back and can't fault the program!! The only remaining issue is that the MPEG-1 files will only ever extract the first frame.

I'd still like a choose-your-own-thumbnail feature though! ;)

Thanks for your response Pierre! I just like to add that I also sometimes observe crashes when creating thumbnails, but usually it doesnt crash at the second try in my case, so I think its something else here. I think I ve some DrWatson-logs, if needed.
One idea Pierre: I love the frame extraction feature in the new beta version. It would be so nice to have a button there saying "use current frame for thumbnail". I also observed that some, but not all, of the videos that do not show a correct thumbnail are still searchable using your nice feature.

Yesterday I was able to get thumbnails for many of my asf + wmf-files using asftools and its basic-repair-feature. This files played fine, they just showed a black thumbnail. So what is left are mov-files and some avis (DX50, Divx5) that do not behave well.

Also it seems like there are some type of WMV files that XnView can not extract and generate thumbnails...it's just stay there. I don't know if the WMV is too big or what...but i don't think so...it looks just like any other WMV files when i check the property.

Stumbled upon that thread while saerching; is there any progress on the "use a custom thumbnail for a certain video", like you watch the movie and press ctrl-t or whatever key you want, and that frame becomes the thumbnail? I didnt find that feature in any Windows application, but there is an old perfectly working linux program that does this, http://gtkmmviewer.sourceforge.net/
