EPS conversion error

I am attempting to convert an eps file on a windows xp pro machine that was originally created on a mac. I'm getting the following message:
"format of the file abc.eps could not be determined."

is this bec. it was created on a mac? If so, what do I need to do to get this file in a position where xn can convert it?

any help would be appreciated

For reading the EPS format, you'll need GhostScript installed on your computer. See topic 'How to display vector formats? GhostScript!'.

Let us know, here, if you have checked everything described in that topic, and the problem still persists.
