:bug:

Since i have installed the 1.95.4 version, i notice that when you activate a mpeg video file, the grid does not show video, but only sounds. However, you can view the picture when you use the full screen option.

This problem does not exist in 1.95.3 version. Indeed, since the installation backward with this release, the problem has disappeared again.

I have problems too with showing video. But in my case full screen preview on second monitor does not work at all presently. If I open the videoclip with another viewer, eg. Windows Media Player or Nero Showtime, there is no such problem.
Sometimes I can preview in the small preview pane of the browser window, but not on a second monitor.
If I double click on the thumbnail to open the editing pane, the clip is sometimes played OK, sometimes not.
The problem is hard to pinpoint because the problem comes and goes.

I seems that the problem has something to do with the initialization of the video playing. The video is actually played, but no image appears on the screen. If no image appears when playing in the preview pane, I can just move the XnView main window a little bit, and then the image suddenly appears. The same is the case with the editing pane.

I hope my observations can contribute to solving the problem. If anyone needs more info, I can do addition experiments.

In the preview of browser?
Pierre.

For me...preview;
If you double click video or use page down/up to view videos, it only gives you sound and navigation. Then if you enable/disable "fit to screen" with right mouse button on video...it works again BUT if you go to next video...same thing until you fix "fit to screen" again.
Annoying...and I think the same problem was there already at very early versions, but I don´t remember is it started working by upgrading program or if there was solution by changing settings.

I have the same problem. I will play a video. The video is mpg and works with windows media, media player classic and such. Inside the xnview movie player - it plays the sound but no video. UNLESS I then change the fit to screen setting. Doesnt matter if Im going to check it or uncheck it - its that it changes - then the video shows and all things are good. Used to work? :( It does seem to trigger ffdshow though I know that - as it shows up in the systray. Any ideas?

Could you try the 1.96 beta?

Hi Pierre,

I noticed the problem since release 1.95, mainly when playing slideshows. It's a transcient issue.
1.96 B1 looks the same, not to say worth because now I see it even in the preview of the browser or in a tab. As said it not systematic, after one or 2 double-click, the clip is shown and then it works pretty all time, till you close XnView.
I tried on 3 machines at least, all WinXP, SP3, with MPEG1 and AVI/MJPEG files. I recall we had something similar 2 years ago.

1.94 worked fine, I still use this version for slideshows, awaiting a fix ;)

Yes Pierre, 1.94 worked and still works fine. 1.95 and 1.96 b1 had the issue.

I just tried 1.96 b2 and so far it works fine. Let me try on some more machines

Video Preview Window

Great program. Thank you. However I have the same problem with video preview. It plays sound without picture until you resize the preview window and then you see the video. But when you change files, the same thing happens and you must resize the window again.

What you described is what I've got with beta 1: the video was flickering while resizing the window and sometime the image was not visible.
I checked beta 2 with various systems (all XP, SP 2 & SP 3, various h/w) and this looks fixed.
Beta 2 even fixed a transcient problem I had with 1.95, which occured in slideshows only. All is OK to me so far.
