.dxf files not recognised

I have the 1.7 version installed and it does not recognise .dxf files
The blurb I read says it should .
What could be wrong with my installation?

Version 1.7??

The current version is 1.95.4!

Getting it from your site http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xn ... linux.html gives version 1.7 Xnview so I assume this is the stable version

If this is not the case where do I download 1.95.4 and is it stable?

1.95.4 is stable, but it is for Windows. About Linux I don't know anything.
