Search of IPTC tags revisited - "non-standard" NEF

I would like to revisit the issue of the Search function not being able to report ("find") NEF files which have been created from JPG or TIF images.

Standard NEF files are correctly found, as are TIFFs.

The solution may be simple because the IPTC tab in the Preview window presents the IPTC tags correctly for all non-standard NEFs (as of Nov/Dec 2007). Maybe the search function has not been similarly updated.

The non standard NEF are not recognized as RAW so it's the problem...

So what does XnView recognise them as when it displays their IPTC contents correctly in the Preview tab?

The searches I do are not limited to RAW NEF files.

Yes the non-standard NEF (originally based on an "imported" JPG or TIFF saved as a NEF) image is not recognized as a RAW.

XnView states that it is a TIFF. Is this the solution for making their IPTC tags seen by the search function?
