XN-View 1.95.4 - Exif thumbnail creating correct?

My Sony mp3 player with display can show jpeg files. In the file manager of the mp3 player I will see small thumbnails, if the jpeg file contains an EXIF thumbnail.

I have some pictures which did not have an EXIF thumbnail.
So I tried to create this thumbnail for each file mit XN-View, menue "edit", "METADATA", Recreate EXIF thumbnail.

Then I tested it with my mp3 player and it did not work.

In the internet I found another program, which can create the EXIF thumbnail (Exifer). This program works fine and show me the picture.

Is there a bug in XN-View or did I do something wrong?

Could you send me a sample, sometimes xnview can't recreate exif thumbnail...
