I am currently running v 1.94.2, and I was trying to Upgrade to the v 1.96. I downloaded the file and when I ran the installer I got the error message:
C:\Program files\XnView\XnView.exe
An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file
DeleteFile failed; code 5.
Access is denied
Click retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended) or abort to cancel this installation.
I retried it several times, and got the same message each time.
I then went to the Start menu>XnView>Uninstall. From there I got the error message:
File"C:\Program Files\XnView\unins000.dat" does not exist.
Cannot Uninstall.
I then went to the Control Panel>Programs & Features. The Uninstall was successful, but I still have an icon on the desktop, and under Program Files, I still have a folder for XnView. It contains 4 sub folders. Cache, Language, Plug ins and Web Template.
I tried to run the Installer again, and still got the same, original error message. Can you help me?

Re: Unable to upgrade XnView
I have downloaded the XnViewShellExtension, and when I try to run XnView I still freeze up. If I try to uninstall it again, I still get the same error message that File"C:\Program Files\XnView\unins000.dat" does not exist.
Somehow I need to uninstall XnView and start all over again. Can you run me through it?

Re: Unable to upgrade XnView
I would try the following:
1) If you cannot uninstall XnView normally using Add & Remove programs, manually delete all folder(s) associated to XnView. If you have any user/saved data, backup it first.
2) Then download Crap Cleaner and do a system cleanup + registry cleanup.
3) Go to the tools section in Crap Cleaner and manually remove the uninstallation entry for XnView.
4) Reboot your computer.
5) Install latest version of XnView.
6) Restore your saved user data (if any).

Re: Unable to upgrade XnView
Thanks!
Now that the old XnView has been uninstalled, I reinstalled, and it is working without a hitch.
