I should definitely use categories or some other sort of tagging my photo collection, since it's becoming so huge that hyerarchical organization becomes difficult to manage and not so effective as I'd like (one image can be only in one folder, but can have more categories assigned...)
So my question is:
since it would be a great effort for my to re-organize my photo collection, is the category solution really portable?
Are files that have been categorized in PC A also categorized in PC B (independently from the program I'm using)
Thank you
Is category information stored in the image file?

Re: Is category information stored in the image file?
currently categories are stored in the xnview.db, not in the file

Waiting impatiently, thank youxnview wrote:Currently i work on such function in XnViewMP (next release).andrea.ippo wrote:That's a pity...xnview wrote:currently categories are stored in the xnview.db, not in the file

PS: what about portability? Will this information be stored in a kind of standardized tags that (almost) every similar application can "understand" (like ID3 tags for mp3 files), or is this information going to be usable only within XnView? (which I don't plan to leave, but it can happen that I use other's PCs which have other imaging applications)

XnViewMP will store it in DB and in XMP/IPTC (file metadata)andrea.ippo wrote: PS: what about portability?
