Category size limit?

If you go into the IPTC data, into "Categories" - the Category field is listed as "3 char max" - why is that?

Something like Irfanview doesn't have this limit, so what happens if you open a picture which has a category of say 20 characters?

it's in specification. photoshop limit it too

So Irfanview allows longer strings they are doing it wrong?

What happens when such an image is loaded into your program? Does it crash? Do you reduce the size?

How about a power option to increase it to 50 or something like that - 3 is really to little to be of use.

How about an option to extend the length?

(There is an windows explorer plugin who also allows a much longer

I see even IPTC realized it was too little, in their new formats this field is not restricted

Hello,

I work with XnView 1.96.2.
With XnView we have 2 possibilities to enter a value for Category:
- In "edit IPTC" window it is limited to 3 characters.
- But it is also possible to edit this field in "preview" window in tab "IPTC".
After double clicking "Category" it is possible to enter more than 3 characters only.

So please allow also more than 3 characters in "edit IPTC" window.
