Long Comments in “View”…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• That's a proposal related to THIS THREAD by taksina.

• On one hand, currently only a short part of a long comment coming from <descript.ion> files
can be displayed in the status-bar :

Image

- On the other hand, XnView doesn't support an enhanced comment feature,
like told in the above mentioned topic.

Supposing that this lacuna is filled in, then the issue of the display remains… Indeed, the simpler way is to use a pop-up info-text, but in View mode, it's already assigned to the coordinates and colour info -if set, but users need it, i.e. myself - so I thought to the solution below :

• Hoping it's self-explanatory… The needed additional command must be bistable, of course. It might work also in the Browser on the Preview.

• A minimalist feature should be -when the long comments are supported - to display the pop-up info-text only hovering the Preview in the Browser, but indeed that's much less convenient…

Note : The taskina's sample and comment are used here, it's more realistic…

• What do you think ?

Hello Clo,
Yes, it's a good idea,
But why not using the "i" hotkey information to do that (bistable behavior), just by adding into:
Tools\Options\View\Full Screen\Show Information\ and insert Description (Annotation item)
The only think to do is to arrange the text in several line if the text is too long,
(It's a case of pop-up info-text too controlled by the "i" key.) , no ???

Long Comments in “View”, command…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello Chistophe !
…But why not using the "i" hotkey information to do that (bistable behavior), just by adding into:
Tools\Options\View\Full Screen\Show Information\ and insert Description (Annotation item)…
• Nothing against, but I wouldn't bet my boots that it works in the case… So, I plan a special command, able to work in View and Browser - maybe in Full screen too automatically, simply hovering the pic…
- And <I> isn't implemented currently to switch the coordinates and colour info into the status bar automatically when used in View mode, isn't it ?
…The only thing to do is to arrange the text in several lines if the text is too long, …
• That's the main point… Currently, the standard <descript.ion> features don't, that needs an enhanced version like in TC 7.5 and Win Explorer 7… like said in the taksina's thread.
…(It's a case of pop-up info-text too controlled by the "i" key.) , no ???
• IIUC, the info from <I> doesn't come from the <descript.ion> file… Image

Hello !

This is of course needed now, since the long comments made in TC 7.5 (and other softs)
are no longer fully supported… :|

- Such enhanced specifications are indeed desirable, to keep the best partership with TC.

- Let's notice too that now when writing a comment longer than 511 characters in TC (Ctrl+Z),
a warning appears as a "beep" sound, and the font of the characters count turns bold starting from 512

¤ A command able to switch the X-Y and coordinates info is also needed, that could be handy…

- Now, we hope to hear the Pierre's opinion …

BTW, this issue migh have been reported already somewhere IIRC, especially about the very short
room in the status-bar for comments.

Friendly,

Paul

Right

It can come from descript.ion file too.

Hello,
1-) I like this kind of warning too, (to be able to meet or not the official specification)
2-) Why not but in this case, maybe Pierre can also add a scroll bar too, if the full text is bigger than the customized X-Y rectangle.

But perhaps it is also possible to add these functionalities under the "i" hotkey information text function ?

Long Comments in “View” : Flexible if possible…

Post by Clo »

 oops66

:) Again…
… It can come from descript.ion file too.
• That isn't that I notice here, tested in a folder containing icons, only a part has comments.
Example
¤ From the the <I> command, only :
K:\Icones\24²\attente_vte.ico
- Thus, only the path and file-name, as any image in the same folder having not any comment.
¤ In the <descript.ion> file :
attente_vte.ico Wilcard icon (waiting for another appropriate.)¦ Icône "Joker" (en attendant une autre correcte)
- The part in blue is displayed in the status-bar currently, but not in the <I> field…
(Paul) 2-) A command able to switch the X-Y and coordinates info is also needed, that could be handy…
Snip…
2-) Why not but in this case, maybe Pierre can also add a scroll bar too, if the full text is bigger than the customized X-Y rectangle.
• That isn't the point. Paul and I meant that the X-Y and coordinates info must be switched from the usual info-text into the status bar when Colour Info is enabled and that we need to display a long comment via the appropriate command…
- Watching the truncated text in the status-bar indicates naturally that the comment
is longer than the available room…
- Prior, I thought to a non-modal small child-window to display the comment, thus (a) scroll-bar¦s come¦s onto automatically if needed - able to be moved on the screen, minimized etc., it's a better way IMHO, but probably needing a bigger programming effort…
- On the mockup, I showed the comment as it's displayed in Total Commander.
…But perhaps it is also possible to add these functionalities under the "i" hotkey information text function ?
• Not sure… and that shouln't be very flexible, even adding an INI entry with several flags for choices…
