Time Stamp suggestion

Post by kpoole55 »

Hi. I've been pointed to XnView as a tool to help sort and manage my vast collection of images. I downloaded the XnViewMP version for Linux and have, in a few days, found it to be an outstanding program. Of particular interest is the change time stamp tool.

I have only one suggestion in regards to this tool, the addition of a "Read" button so that one can select a file, open the change date tool and read the date/time from the selected file and place that date/time in the "Specific Date & Time" fields. That time could then be applied to the next selected file. This would be an improvement over manually looking up the date/time from a file and entering it into the "Specific Date & Time" fields.

Yeah, I'm lazy and looking at reassigning the date/time on literally thousands of files.

You would like to use a specific date/time for all files, right?

First, thanks for looking at my suggestion and replying. Second, I'm being obtuse again, aren't I?

Here's what I've noticed about the Change Time Stamp tool, so far. I select a file, open the Change Date & time tool, set a specific date & time and write it to the file. If I select another file and open the Change Time Stamp tool, the specific time data is still set to what it was for the first file. That's fine, no problem at all. It means I can quickly set that same date & time to a second or third or fourth, etc file very quickly. (in fact, I just found that I can select a set of files and you have a "Write All" button that wasn't there when I had only one file selected so the time stamp change will apply to all the selected files. marvelous.)

Here's what I'd like ... a "Read" button so that if I select a file and open the Change Time Stamp tool, I can press the "Read" button and the time stamp data will be read from the selected file into the Specific Date & Time fields. Then, I can select another file, or files, and write the specific date & time picked up from the first file to the newly selected file, or files. In other words, I could very quickly clone a time stamp from one file to some other file or files.

Now, I know I can visually read the date and time from the first file and set it manually into the Specific Date & Time fields but 1) I'm lazy and 2) if I do it manually I can make a mistake. If I only needed to press a "Read" button, I use less button presses and there's less chance of a transcription error since the machine pulls the date & time data and fills the fields itself.

I never do a thing manually if there's a way for the machine to do the thing automatically. Add that "Read" button and a full visually similar file finder and this program will be perfect. (I'm really only kidding about the visually similar file finder. That's too big a task compared to the "Read" time stamp button. :-)

Again, many thanks for looking at my suggestion and showing some interest in it.
