Upgrade/Installation problem

Post by dglp »

I've just tried to upgrade from 1.93.6 to 1.96.1, and got a memory write failure when I tried to start the new version.
I uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled 1961 and get the same error.
I've uninstalled that, reinstalled 1.93.6, and it starts fine.

Suggestions?

It's possible that old DLLs (e.g. language DLLs) cause the problem.

How did you do the upgrade? Did you unpack XnView 1.96.1 into the XnView 1.93 directory? If you used the install version, first uninstall the old package and then install the new version. If you used the ZIP archive for installation, simply unpack into a different directory (and delete the old folder).

Another possible culprit for crashes is an incompatible .ini file:
Please rename the file xnview.ini to something like xnview.ini.bak and the start XnView. If this was the reason, please send your old .ini file to Pierre.

I have reinstalled 1.96.1 on a different path, and it works.
Database and shortcuts remain intact - the stuff in Application Data seems okay.
Haven't looked at plugins.
