Scan (acquire) restore normal (silent) behaviour

Post by wOxxOm »

Recent versions of XnView introduced an additional yes/no dialog when scanning (acquiring) multiple pages from e.g. a scanner device...

I wonder do I have words to describe how cumbersome and anti-human this turned out to be. Now I have to answer this additional question to continue scanning, then wait while the twain UI is loaded, and so on and on, with all those windows opening and closing. In previous versions of XnView all one just had to do to scan 10 pages was hitting 10 times a Scan button in the twain32 UI provided by the scanner driver software.

Which of the recent XnView versions introduced this change of behaviour? Could it be customized by a user or will it be fixed in the next build? And thank you for developing one of the fastest picture viewer :-)

It was a change in 1.96, previous batch scan had problems with many scanners....
So perhaps add an option to use previous function?

I subscribe to the frustration.
It takes 3x times longer to do batch scanning this way.

With a dialog to click and the re-loading of the scanning interface, "Acquire Into ..." is just like normal Acquire.

I use a HP Scanner, and when TWAIN starts, it warms the lamp does a preview and resets all settings to AUTO (dumb, but cannot be avoided).
XnView saved the day (like wOxxOm said) when you set everything and just hit Scan to have all the pages sent into a folder.

An option not to display the " Do you want to continue ..." box would be excellent.
Maybe somethig like "Never ask again" on the dialog?

(imagine if you get that box pop up after every image when you do batch conversion...)

J'ajoute ma voix pour déplorer ce changement frustrant.
Not only do we have to click "Yes" to the dialog (doubling the clicks), all the settings (dpi, color range, dimensions, etc) are reset.
The result: this can hardly be called a batch mode anymore.

Hoping the developper will give back the batch mode as an alternative.

(Merci tout de même pour cette application utile)

please, fix it someday not too far distant in the future :-)

p.s. me thinks there's no need to follow e.g. aging adobe in their ridiculous decision in photoshop CS4 that breaks 15+ yrs old keyboard map for switching color channels (Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, ...) in favor of unusable combinations "incorporated" from illustrator, so now it's Ctrl-3, 4, etc

** I also have found the same issue with my Canon scanner. Is there some place we can get the previous version?

It's ok, I found a 1.91.x version on my PC I can still use until this is fixed.

JamesGT, just google for "xnview 1.95 download", there are plenty of archives maintaining older versions of software (filehippo, afterdawn, etc)

I wish to thank the developper for re-establishing the 'normal' and more logical ('silent') batch scanning behavior.
The scanned images don't load after a scan (or maybe i missed a setting somewhere), but that's not a real problem.
I used IrfanView in those five past months, but now I'm back.

Thank you again, merci bien.
