Distorted images on Acer montior

I recently reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP on my Dell Dimension 8400 and my XnView images are too wide relative to their height. My monitor has a wide format. My desktop background photo has not changed; it looks great. However, the XnView and images on my browser look too wide. I can't figure out how to change the ratio of height to width for the images. Check monitor/driver settings for any terms similar to:
Scaling, aspect ratio, fill/fit to screen

Program specific setting for certain images:
Options>General>[x]Adjust zoom if X/Y DPI are different
