Cropping. No Standard Ratios?

Post by jpmccormac »

I searched the Forums but didn't find any way to crop images into standard paper ratios, i.e., 4x6", 5x7", etc. I was really starting to like XnView until I came across this omission. Am I overlooking something?

In Edit > Selection ratio and Edit > Selection Size you can set the ratio and/or size of the selection and then crop. From what I can see 4x6" and 5x7" is not amongst the selection size, but often one needs a specific ratio, regardless of the size.

Thanks for the quick reply, Helmut. I missed that in the Edit menu. I will give it a try. I believe that the 3:2 ratio is approximately the right size for a 4x6 inch print.

Yes, 3:2 ratio should do the job. Just make sure that the cropped image contains enough pixels for the foto print.

Also checkout the other functions like "Edit > Selection > Swap Width & height" or "Edit > Selection > Selection ratio > Same as image" and the appropriate keyboard shortcuts ("D" and "Tab"). Makes cropping efficient...
