Problem getting change timestamp to work

What is the trick to get the change timestamp option in the tools menu to work? I have a directory of pictures and I need to change the time stamp from PM to AM. I do a -12:00 and the dates look correct on the screen, I click apply and it looks like it is working, but then I go and look at the picture and the date is not changed. What am I doing wrong? I also tried it in the EXIF tab with the same results. Your assistance is appreciated.

I have no problem. You would like to change the EXIF date taken? Which result do you have?

Yes, I would like to change the EIFX date taken. I change it with the timestamp change option and choose apply. then I go and look at the picture and the date has not changed. Is there a special way to save it or make the file change?

I have a similar problem:

I want to change the File Dates 'created' and 'modified' by using the Exif Date 'taken'.

Applying this in Tools-->Change Timestamp shows no effect.

XnView Version 1.96.5, 1.97 Beta 3 and Win7 x64, WinXP Pro SP3

I just realized it too: it was a read-only file - of course nothing could be changed.
