IPTC Edit problem with Win7

Hi,
Using the IPTC Edit mode to add and write comments attached to jpeg images seems to be blocked by Windows 7 and creates a new *.bak file instead of adding IPTC info to the image. As the same function works excellent with WinXP it seems that some Windows 7 setting is obstructing XnView 1.97 from writing the info to the image file, but I can't figure out what. Before testing, I made sure that no files were in ReadOnly mode.

Finally, after working with the problem a few hours, the problem has to do with the security permisions that are more rigid in Win7 than in XP. The solution, at least in my case was to change the security settings in Win7 as follows:
1. In Win7, right-click on the drive with your images and click Properties
2. On the Security tab, click Edit
3. Check the "Allow Full Control" box applying to your <user name> and click OK.
4. Wait for it to finish
5. Un-check the Read-Only status (after changing and applying the security settings - otherwise it will not take effect.

I am also using Windows 7 and having this problem. Changing Properties had no effect. Not all photos create a .bak file but most do. It is very fustrating to keep checking and deleting these bak files! Any Solutions?

If you have a .bak, so the original file can not be modified...

Thanks for reply XNVIEW. I understand that no changes can be made if there is a .bak file. But why when changing IPTC infomation in Xnview and Windows 7 does it create a .bak file?

No sorry, you have a .bak because the file can be changed by XnView.
