using nconvert (os x)

ok I mean just be dense, but I cant figure this out

I have nconvert and I ran it in terminal and it finished the script without any room for input so I assumed that was wrong
so i opened terminal and navigated to the folder containing nconvert and the file i need to convert (0001.pi2) and tried running (nconvert -i 0001.pi2 -o tif)
i got command not found i then tried just running nconvert from terminal same thing. I tried numerous other versions of the same thing only to get the same result...a little help please

nconvert is currently in
/users/thebrangers/downloads/NConvert

In a terminal if you type nconvert (in the folder of nconvert), you have nothing?
