Categories and Tree/Favorites view

Post by uncletom »

Hi

I'm currently creating and assigning categories. My Xnview screen sows tree/favorites/categories tabs on the left, images folder overview on the top right, and image detail view in the lower right part.
Xnview shows only top categories at the start, so I have to expand the categories view first. Usually one wants first to select the image folder, selecting the images to assign and then drag and drop to the category of choice. This is not possible, when categories are not expanded. Of course, it does not make sense to have the category expanded by default, especially when the list is very long. But would'nt it be possible to have the tree view and the category view vivible at the same time, so it is possible to independently expand the category view without leaving the directory listing?

Thanks for thinking about!

Cheers, Uncle Tom

Currently it's not possible, only XnViewMP can show the 2 panes

Dear Pierre

Does this mean XnViewMP is the right choice if I want a future proof solution? Or do you still plan to enhance XnView?
The other thing I'd like to mention - during my work I had the impression that this behaviour could also be a bug.
When I switch from the tree view tab to the categories tab, the preview browsing area gets cleared (even when no category is selected) as soon as I expand one of the categories.
This is quite disturbing, because after expanding the categories, I have to start from scratch choosing the right folder.

With 1.96 on Vista Ultimate.
With 1.97 on Win7 its working.
After upgrading to 1.97 on Vista it is working too, so it seems an old bug which is fixed.
Many thanks!
