No thumbnails displayed for big JPEG

I have a bunch if files with dimensions like 2900*4400.

When I open thumbnail view on XnView 1.97 nor 1.97.2, it not show thumbnails for this files. Thumbnail for little files (100x100) displayed correctly.
If I select big JPEG then I can see it on preview pane.

If there are a limitations of file dimensions and thumbnail creation, please publish them.
Its very strange and uncomfortable to have a hidden logic for free program which shall open any file in any conditions.

I resolved problem: there was a JPEG2000 files with .JPEG extension.
