If tagged files are batch-renamed, the tags can't be removed properly anymore.
To reproduce this, do the following:
- Ensure that "Show tag box" is set
- Go to a folder with at least two images
- Tag at least two images
- Choose "Batch rename" and choose to rename tagged images
- Rename the files somehow
Now you should see that the tag boxes of the renamed files are checked yet. You can uncheck them or select "Clear all tags" but as soon as you go to another folder and go back to the folder with the images, the tags are there again.
Thank you,
Michael

Thumbnail tag persistence is determined by:
Options... Browser>Thumbnails>[Icon Info]>Tagged file list must be cleared: [____]

Setting it to "After an operation" helps, but previously it was set to "After folder change" so should have worked already.

Now I see it. It doesn't happen with thumbnail cache turned off.
