MP Linux feature: enhanced file handling

Post by Gerhard Mesenich »

1) Dual boot systems, enable mounting of windows partions

Windows partitions are currently not shown in xnviewMP, even if mounted.
Please enable mounting.

2) Administrative rights

Administrative rights could be enabled with password and right click on the file, so that configuration scripts can be edited right away.

3) Editing in preview window

Editing of configuration and txt files could be enabled in the preview window, so that small changes could be made rapidly. It would also be nice, to have line numbers shown in the preview window.

Thanks,
Gerhard

I have just found, that external partitions can be mounted, but it's very cumbersome.

The mounting has to be done with an external progran (nautilus), xnview must then be restarted. The new partitition then shows as a subfolder under the 'media' folder.

I find this behaviour very unintuitive. All partitions should be shown in the root, so that they can be clearly recognized.

-------

xnviewMP-Linux is also showing 2 home folders:
1xHome
1xhome

Difference is just the capitalization of the first letter, both relate to the same folder, but the one with capital letter hides part of the structure.
Very confusing, looks like some strange QT-behaviour; is this a bug or a feature?

There should be a clear file structure with every folder shown only once and with full path.

The second 'home' item is your 'home' partition?

Yes, it is, but why does it show twice with part of the structure eliminated?

I think "Home" should show username instead. Not to be confused with partition mounted on "/home".

My file manager shows this for a tree view:
>Username
>Trash
>File System

Here the folder pane shows the following structure:

---------

Computer - this is the root of the harddisk
..
home
PersonalFolder

Then it starts again with:

Home - this is my renamed PersonalFolder
..

Then it starts a third time (home folder tripled):

home - this seems to be the home Partition
Personal Folder

after this come two more duplicates:

lost+found
Recycled

----------

I think there should at least be an option to show only the disk with its file structure with the original names and no duplicates at all. Renaming and duplicating folders just creates confusion and obscures the file system.

Naming the hard disk 'computer' is like calling all cars vehicles :-). Actually it's just the root. Why not just stick to the proper names?
