Yes, with completely new settings. This doesn't occur when I copy the ".trash" folders to a location not actually used by Debian 6.0 (testing) + Xfce4. I do not have this issue on Ubuntu 9.10 (from Nautilus Files manager) and XnViewMP linux 0.25.
Did you try with a fresh xnview.ini file & .db file ?
(Because I have had some conflicts and similar problems with my old .ini & db file.)
I do not know ?...So maybe this is desktop-specific...
