Actually I meant *show* the tab bar when only one window is open.
- When only one window is open theres nothing much to use, you either show it or hide it, imo
- It's the syntax Firefox uses
- what do ckit and marsh think?

"Hide the tab bar when only one window is open" or "Use folder tabs even for one window"???? "Use folder tabs even for one window" seems better for me...
Hide the tab bar when only one tab is opened

Is the best variant, like in english localization of Firefox

I'm not native speaker, but the sentence used in Firefox is not very meaningful. From my point of view, Tabs are never open. Windows are open, but Tabs are shown. And isn't this a sort of recursion and contradiction in itself: Hide tab bar if tab is opened? :?

Another suggestion - a variation of OL's wording:
[x] Show folder tabs even for one window

I can't understand why it is called "folder tabs" at all.
I would say that this is "Tabbed browsing", "Tabbed view" or "Window tabs".
helmut wrote:Hide tab bar if tab is opened
And this is not a sort of recursion and contradiction in itself, because the "tab bar" and the "tab" are different conceptions. The "tab bar" is the line where all tabs are placed and the "tab" is the thing placed on the bar.

English is not my native language but I've been speaking it since I was six years old. As for me "Hide the tab bar when only one tab is opened" sounds better.

I vote for this. Word "Tab" is used in all internet browsers.

"Folder tabs" is confusing also for me.

The language used should be determined by Xnview default setting.
If default is on, then it start with: "Hide."
If default is off, then it start with: "Show."

(I quickly deleted my own post. I hope that didn't confuse)

It looks funny:

Default on: [x] Show or [ ] Hide
Default off: [ ] Show or [x] Hide

Currently the default settings are to show if checked, then it'd be show instead of hide.

In fact Firefox uses "Hide the tab bar when only one *web site* is open". When you think about it, it's not the tab nor the window that is open, it's the page that is open in a tab or a window. I'm not sure how to adapt "web site" for XnView, "file" doesn't work because the only tab is usually for the browser.
"Hide the tab bar when only one file or browser is open" maybe

"Use folder tabs even for one window" isn't confusing to me either. I'm a student in the US but English isn't my mother tongue so I can't really say how correct it is, it sounds good to me as well though.

I agree with EgoSun, also. Simply saying 'tabs' is better than 'folder tabs'. The
word 'folder' would be inappropriate because of what the tabs usually point to. Tabs
will usually refer to image content. They will only refer to a directories/folders
when browser window is displayed.

Well, I disagree because I have "Hide the tab bar when only one website is open" UNCHECKED in Firefox 1.0.4 and thats the way I like it.

I like to feel in-control.

At the same time, I wouldn't mind losing the Browser Tab icon and having just the word "Browser"

:) Hello Pierre!
So everyone agree with "Hide the tab bar when only one tab is opened"?
- I agree too; such a similar option exists in Total Commander for the Folder-tabs… Here, we have file-tabs, but it's the same issue…
