This is my first post and I want to wholeheartedly thank you for the incredible work you do and the generous support you show people by providing this excellent program for free for non-commercial use.
I have an ancient set of MacPaint image files from the brilliant and no longer published Comic Strip Factory application. These monotone (strictly B&W) bitmap files have the .MAC file extension. I transferred these files from an equally ancient and long-gone early Mac to an equally old and long-gone PC. But I still have these files and VERY much want to convert them for continued use. I understand that there may be no interest for this aging format by 99.999% of people who use XnView for graphic file viewing and conversion. So it is not too surprising to see that support for this format apparently has been dropped from the currently offered XnView installation package. But perhaps this there is something I am missing and a bit of help would get me on track.
The website states support for over 400 graphic file formats and on the list of these is "Mac Paint" with extensions "mac, mpnt, macp, pntg, pnt, paint." However when I install the latest XnView and go to the "Info/Supported formats..." menu item, the pop-up dialog says 208 formats for reading and 61 for writing. The MacPaint format and .MAC file extension is not among those listed. When I go to "Options/System integration/Associations" I cannot find MacPaint nor the .MAC file extension listed to check a checkbox for this format support.
Please enlighten me as to the potential to view and convert these files. I am using version 1.97.4 under Windows 7.
Thank you,

A subset of formats found on web page are enabled by default. There is an option for more.
Does XnView support graphic format .xyz?

Thank you, Marsh! And such a quick and helpful reply...
Thank you again, Marsh, for this helpful advice.
Finally, as a bit of feedback for Pierre-e... It might be helpful for new users if the "Display all image file types" checkbox was mirrored on the Associations panel with a dynamic refresh of the list to dramatically showcase what an amazing level of support is available in this great program. While you are at it, it might be worth adding a "Show only selected formats" filter that would make it easy to see how a user has his/her program configured at the moment.

It was the second link about going to "Options/General" and checking "Display all image file types" that did the trick. Once clicked and then accessing the "Options/System integration/Associations" panel I did indeed find the GREATLY expanded list of file types and, voila! MacPaint file format was listed, clicked, and I am "off to the races" as we say!marsh wrote:A subset of formats found on web page are enabled by default. There is an option for more.
