Edit IPTC metadata in Tiff?

I have tried to edit iptc metadata in tiff-files, but xnview sees it as "read-only". But, if I convert to JPG, it´s suddenly possible to edit. Is there some way to keep the files in Tiff-format, and still be able to edit the metadata?

Sorry - I made a simple search and found out that editing Tiff IPTC is not possible in Xnview. Does anyone know any other (preferably free) software that has this feature? Cheers /J

Unfortunately its not possible, as you noticed. I think that it is on Pierres to-do list, isn't that right? Personally I use Photoshop to edit IPTC of tifs, though not free software.

Check out the ExifToolsGui/ExifTools combination. It works well, is up-to-date and is free.

This should work today, I have edited IPTC in TIFs with XnView.

I can not write IPTC metadata to images tif with version 1.97.4 (complete) download on your site on June 3, 2010.

I tried to write IPTC data in TIFF files with other software to see how to react Xnview.
First, few software tested only Photoshop and Picasa allowed me to enter IPTC data.

After entering data with Photoshop, Xnview can read but I could not modify or add IPTC data.

After entering data with Picasa, Xnview can not read and I could not let alone modify or add IPTC data.

I cannot write IPTC data to a TIF file. I emailed you a test file today.

I right click on the file, click on Edit IPTC data..., type something in the Caption box and click the Write button. What I typed in the Caption box disappears.
