Hey Guys,
I came across XnVIEw and this program is awesome. The performance is so fast, compared to the other program I have been using for the last 5 years.
I want to replace my legacy program with XnView, but having a strange issue with UNC. Hopefully this is just something i am doing wrong.
All my images are scattered on boxes accross the network. I have enable "network discovery" per the XnView Pop up.
When I access these images, I just type the UNC into the path in the toolbar. When I do this, XnView just freezes / not responding for over a minute or more, before the thumbnail loads. There are maybe 50 to 200 images, which are about 200kb each.
If I access the folder from clickint the navigation bar and expanding the folders, there is no problem in performance at all.
I have tried the exact same task on several servers, and it all performs the same. exact unc path in the toolbar = freeze / not responding for a couple of minute before loading, navigating via tree pane = fine, but a head ache.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Any tips or insight would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Problem Accessing Images from UNC
Hey xnview,
Thanks for the reply.
As for regards to the lenght, I am assuming you are meaning how many folders. From the server level, there is 4 folders, before the images are listed.
Here is an example of the path:
//<Server>/<Category>/<Subject>/<Month>/<Day>/images.tif
Just as an FYI, I loaded XNView on different client boxes, and hit different servers. Same outcome.

Re: Problem Accessing Images from UNC
Hey XNView,
Well..we have alot of servers, and each servers has shareds So I guess you can say we have alot of shared servers. As for images that I want to us XNView ot look at, there are only 2-3 servers.
Based on the way you are responding, it appears that XNView has a discovery / scanning process that goes to the network and see where there are images that the program can view, similar to microsoft media center. Since I have alot of servers and a lot of images, when I attempt to hit a UNC directly, it is trying to gather more information then just the destination of my unc.
I want to know is there a way that I can have XNView turn off the network scanning / probing options, and just look at the images at the path I provide?
Is there a command line I can use.. maybe somethign like xnview -don'tscan -path \\server\blah\blah\*.*
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Problem Accessing Images from UNC
No, XnView don't scan for images. But the problem is perhaps the method to find the server!
