1.97.7 Crash while saving changes

I am a new user of XnView and running it on Windows 7. The functions for adjusting the photos are excellent and functioning perfect, but when I try to save the result the program usually crashes.

One example (tried several times): I rotated a picture 2 degrees with automatic crop and adjusted for red eyes, everything OK. When I pressed the “Save as” button, XnView closed down without saving anything.

In the start I could save changes a few times. Then crashes started to occur at different stages of the save process and now the crash comes immediately as in my example.

This performance is the same with XnView 1.97.7 Standard version and Complete version. Installing XnView Shell Extension Setup v 2.91 (64 bit version) did not change the situation.

Hope you can help me, I love the functionality in XnView.

Hi Pierre,

The behavior of XnView when changes are to be saved is rather inconsistent. I open a picture, chang it in some way (like rotating it 90 degrees) and then press the “Save as” key. Sometimes the program then exits immediately. Sometimes the screen for naming the copy comes up, but the program exits when I browse among the file names.

I have now been working for a couple of hours with many different pictures and different kind of changes without finding a clue to the inconsistent behavior. Are there any settings needed to be adjusted or are there any other programs that are known to cause conflicts?

If you need one of my picture files, how can I send it to you?

Hi again,

Now my problem is solved. There was another program hiding in the background, once installed by mistake and never removed. After getting that away XnView does the saving as intended.

I am very happy to be able to use the really excellent XnView.
