[MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
Let say I have 2 pictures, P1 and P2. P1 has the keyword A, P2 has the keyword B.
I would like to add the keyword C to both P1 and P2 at the same time in order P1 to have A and C keywords, P2 to have B and C keywords.
I fail to find the right options of 'Edit IPTC/XMP' to do that correctly
May be I fail to understand the way MP works in this case...
NB1. P1 and P2 are tagged with 'XMP only' mode.
NB2. I tried setting 'Add new value to array' option.

Re: [MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
Well, I tried also with 'IPTC only' mode, without success : I don't understand how to add a keyword to a selection of pictures having already a set of keywords (a different one for each item of the selection).
So is it a bug or am I very stupid ?

Hello,
You have different solutions (but still under development - beta stage, so maybe some bugs) :
1-) "On the fly"
you can try into the Browser Mode (Preview windows):
Multi-select thumbnails
Info tab \ Categories tab
Expend the "Other" directory , click on (+)
Left mouse click on Other \ New Subcategory
"your new keyword"
then check the related item(s) to apply to image(s)
...
2-) With the Edit IPTC/XMP menu ( ctrl + i )
Keywords tab
add new keywords
....
save
The behavior also depends of your custom setting in :Tools\settings\Metadata ...

Re: [MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
Thanks for the help.
I tried the 2nd way (with different option settings) and MP (or myself ?) fails to add a new keyword preserving the existing ones of each item of the selection.
NB. In this 2nd way it seems to me that the behaviour doesn't depend of Tool/Setting/Metadata but it depends of IPTC/XMP Editor/Options.

Yes, I think in this case, it depends of the both configurations.mahikeulbody wrote:... In this 2nd way it seems to me that the behaviour doesn't depend of Tool/Setting/Metadata but it depends of IPTC/XMP Editor/Options.[/i]

The only related setting I see into Tools/Setting/Metadata is about DB categories but I don't want to use DB categories (at least for the moment), only keywords (i.e. subjects into XMP world).

You also can have the "XMP/IPTC keywords inside the DB", it's much faster. (default behavior)mahikeulbody wrote:The only related setting I see into Tools/Setting/Metadata is about DB categories but I don't want to use DB categories (at least for the moment), only keywords (i.e. subjects into XMP world).
In you case, maybe the option "Export DB categories to XMP keywords" is a good idea if you use the solution n°1 (with a synchronization).
PS: Do not forget to always make preliminary tests with some copies (especially with a beta version)

Re: [MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
I am not using MP 0.31 in production, I am only testing it. So I am not asking about another way to add a keyword to a selection, I would like one confirms there is a bug into IPTC/XMP editor in case of multi-selection or, at the opposite, shows me I am doing the wrong way.
Anyway, thanks for your help. I will try DB categories, of course.

Re: [MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
For your information:
Here, I have just make a test via solution n°2 (crtl+i), and that works fine here, new keywords are added into IPTC & XMP (with a multi-selected .jpgs mouse selection --> save all, - does not work yet if you tag the files)
OS:Ubuntu 10.04 under Wine 1.2 and XnViewMP0.31windows.
So i have not your bug .

Re: [MP 0.31] How to add a keyword to a selection ?
What do you mean ?does not work yet if you tag the files
My test case
Tools/Settings/Metadata: all keywords settings unchecked (since I don't want to use DB categories right now)
Edit IPTC/XMP Editor: Mode = 'XMP only', all multiple selection settings checked but the last one ('Replace only if original value is empty')
I clean XMP and IPTC metadata of my two pictures (let say P1 and P2). I check also they don't have any DB categories.
I select P1 and I do ctrl-I.
I go to keyword panel, I write "kw1" and I add it doing 'Return' and then Save. I check that kw1 has been added to P1 through the XMP panel of Info windows (dc.subject[1] kw1).
In the same way, I add kw2 to P2.
Now I want to add kw3 to both P1 and P2 in order to have {kw1, kw3} for P1 and {kw2, kw3} for P2. So I multi-select P1 and P2 and then I do ctrl-I. What I have to do to get the expected result (using Save All, of course) ?
NB. I tried with Ubuntu under Wine and with Windows XP.

Usually two ways are available with XnView & XnViewMP to multi-selected files.mahikeulbody wrote:What do you mean ?does not work yet if you tag the files
You can multi-select files with a Ctrl + mouse selection, or use the tag functionality to select them.

Hello,
Si je peux me permettre et si nécessaire traduire !
En utilisant ou non la BD (choix dans Outils/Options/Métadonnées).
Les trois options cochées :
yes : Add new value to array
Yes : Keep original value if new value is empty
Yes : Replace only if original values is empty
