...Maybe some idea for the next XnViewMP version ?

Post by oops66 »

Hello,
I have tried Fotoxx (under Ubuntu 10.04) and some functionalities are very user friendly, see here :
http://kornelix.squarespace.com/fotoxx/

But the best way is to try Fotoxx to better see some interesting behaviors.

... so i think it would be interesting if XnViewMP could also have some functionalities like:
\Retouch:
Brightness and color adjustments using movable curves
Flatten brightness distribution (quick fix for many photos)
...
\Area:
Select Area Mouse
...
\Tools:
converts one or more RAW files to tiff-16 format

...
...???

Wow. Those look very useful!

I wish for a wide range of functionality inside MP, also.

My personal goal would be to never leave the XnView GUI. But realistically, the Lightrooms and Photoshops of the world will always have more functionality... so there will never be a time when I could rely solely on XnView/MP.

However, if XnView/MP evolved toward the functionality included in, say, Zoner Photo Studio (a good "intermediate" graphics tool very similar in UI design to XnView), then XnView/MP could suffice for perhaps 75% of my projects.

But IMO instead of programming every inch of functionality himself, a much better use of Pierre's time would be to devise an image adjustment plug-in system that does not require a separate window (as do .8bf plug-ins). I don't mean to suggest that .8bf plug-ins should run inside the MP view window (not possible, I think), but that there be an interface and published specification for creating new plug-ins specifically for MP that can be integrated inside the XnView/MP GUI.

If the architecture of XnView/MP was more "open" (in the way that TC is) then Pierre's burden of development of new features would be reduced, since others of us could develop new tools for MP.

Hello JohnFredC,
Right, I agree, Pierre does not have enough time to spend it for non essential things.
However, sometime some other ideas can be interesting, I am especially thinking about this "user friendly" idea: " by using movable curves" (see Brightness/color item) instead "by using cursors" (with or without the values), but this is only a suggestion.

Yep. All that stuff is just very, very cool.

Linux only, though?
