Re: XnView 1.97.8 browser crashes with some PDF files.
I have installed Ghostscript 9.00 but XnView browser showed correct some pdfs also before installing Ghostscript and this, I know, is very strange.
So I have tryed to search on my system another software like Ghostscript but I have not found anything.
Windows xp shows all pdf thumbnails correct and Irfanview, installed after XnView for test, does the same.
Probably there is something on my system that makes conflict with the XnView browser, but I do not know what can be.
Have you got any idea?

Re: XnView 1.97.8 browser crashes with some PDF files.
Eureka! I have found which is the problem!
I have uninstalled the software PDF X-Change Viewer (produced by Tracker Software Ltd.), a very good alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader, and now everything runs fine.
I think that PDF X-Change Viewer has got its PostScript renderer, alternative to Ghostscript, that goes in conflict with the XnView browser.
Unfortunatley now also Windows xp preview gallery mode does not show PDF thumbnails!
Probably Windows xp preview gallery mode used the PostScript renderer of PDF X-Change Viewer, IrfanView uses only Ghostscript and XnView uses Ghostscript only if there is not another PostScript renderer.
Well, is there a way to set Ghostscript as the only one PostScript renderer for XnView?
This because I would like to use both XnView and PDF X-Change Viewer.
Thank you very much for your help.
PS: XnView is the best free image viewer that I know!

You can use XNVIEW_GS_DLL & XNVIEW_GS_LIB environment variablesflaudan75 wrote: Well, is there a way to set Ghostscript as the only one PostScript renderer for XnView?

hello Pierre
i have the same problem.
When i open a folder where PDF documents are located, XNView hangs (NO RESPONDING).
WINXP SP3 with Acrobat Reader 10.0 x, as default PDF reader, and PDFCreator 1.1.0 and PDF XChangeReader (without shell extention installed) on the system as well. No Ghostscript installed on the system.
Where (in which file e.g. xnview.ini) should the XNVIEW_GS_DLL & XNVIEW_GS_LIB environment variables set?
manay thanks and rgs Bob

There is a problem on XnView if PDF XChange + shell extension is installed. Are you sure that shell extension of pdxchange is not installed?

Re: XnView 1.97.8 browser crashes with some PDF files.
btw, in case you still have issue and for anyone else who finds the topic, environment variables are set in the control panel, not in XnView. They are under System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables, you have to create them if they aren't listed. Setting this should allow XnView to remain compatible with PDF-XChange, which is installed with dozens of applications. (Less so now that free alternatives like DoPDF and CutePDF exist.)Bobf wrote:hello Pierre

Hi, again I hope its not too late to refloat this topic
I read what flaudan75 said on his comment , and I think it might help me out with my doubt...
Do "Acrobat Reader" and "Acrobat Professional" have their own Postscript renderers like Ghostscript? Right? I ask, because I have them installed already, and I wouldn't like to install Ghostscript.
Then, my question is : Is there any way to set the Acrobat's renderer as the PDF interpreter in Xnview?. Which VARIABLES and VALUES should I add on the Environment Variables table?
