Batch convert and rename in one pass?

Post by colin_e »

Is it possible to rename files within a batch conversion script?

I have a script that converts images (scale and set canvas size) for a dumb digital photo frame that can't rescale images without stretching them.

It also always displays files in filename order, ignoring EXIF date etc, so currently having batch-converted the files (into a new output folder) I then have to run a separate batch rename pass to name the files based on the EXIF date.

It would be good to be able to rename each file on the fly as it is being converted, but i can't see an option to do this. While conveting you seem to be able to only either-
  1. Output the file with the current name
  2. Choose a "rename" option, but with no configuration for what the new name is (presumably it just adds a prefix to avoid overwriting the current file).
If this isn't possible currently, any chance of an output file naming option buitl into the batch processing filter in a later version?

Cool, I will take a look. Thanks for the tip. Is this part of the XNView MO project or something separate?

Both. It stands by itself and Pierre has also included it in his multi-platform tool set.
