XnView 1.97.8 Crashes - very long filenames

I've been wondering why XnView 1.97.8 was crashing for me, and I've narrowed it down to extremely long filenames.

Using the browser, viewing thumbnails. Windows7.

The files are on a network drive. The files in question have a full path which is longer than 256 characters. Windows will show me that I have a file, but cannot process it (properties, view, etc). XnView unfortunately crashes.

yes, XnView can have problem with filename > 256 characters
