Cannot rename some video files in 1.98

Post by meRobs »

I have a folder with 11 video files of different fomats.
I can L-click and hit the Rename button (or R-click or F2) to change their names for all but 3 files!
The three are MOV, 3GP and MP4. In these cases an error message pops up with: "Error renaming the File"

The problem may relate to the Preview because whenever I L-click (to select) or R-click (context menu) there is a delay as the Preview adapts.
Since, XnView has problems with some video files (it often hangs up needing Task Manager), I had unchecked "Options > Preview > Auto play for Video/Audio".
Even so, I cannot rename these 3 types.
In these cases, Thumbnails appear for the 3GP but not the MOV or MP4. Also, the 3GP and MP4 play, whereas, the MOV causes XnView to hang up!

Its a pit there is no Toolbar' button to toggle Preview On/Off. This may help.

Do you use Quicktime codec?

I have not intentionally installed quicktime, which I assume is why it won't play MOV files.
But not playing them is not the problem.
The problem is that XnView so readily hangs up, needing Task Manager to close it and try again.

I have Preview set to not play until I hit its play button, so, a single click on a MOV does nothing but give a pop-up message that Quicktime is smissing.
Since I don't need to play it I leave it as is.
Sometimes (not always) there is a crash, but my main concern is that if I try to rename the MOV file I get the "Error renaming the file" warning.
Even more strange is I get the same message when trying to rename an MP4 or a 3GP file even though they play in the Preview!

An other issue with video files and renaming:

In browser mode, browse into a folder containing videos (wmv or mpg or other), select one and play it fullscreen (enter or dble click according to your settings). Then back to thubnails view, go up one level (up arrow) and try to rename the folder: you can't.
It looks like the video file is still open in Xnview (other programs neither can rename the folder until Xnview is closed).
Unlike movs, mpg and wmv files can be renamed after playing.
